On February 20, 2026, St. Mary’s University successfully completed a comprehensive curriculum review workshop covering six major postgraduate disciplines: Management of Business Administration (MBA), Project Management, Marketing Management, Accounting and Finance, Development Economics, and Social Work. The workshop brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives from the National Bank of Ethiopia, leading commercial banks and insurance companies, public universities, the Federal Supreme Court, NGOs, industry experts, employers, students, and alumni. Their participation underscored the national significance of the review process and the university’s commitment to aligning its academic programs with national priority, global standards and local industry needs.

The workshop was opened by Dr. Misagnaw Solomon, Vice President for Research and International Relations, who underscored the importance of curriculum renewal in an era shaped by digitalization, sustainability imperatives, and new organizational models.

Each discipline team presented detailed needs assessments, examining the alignment of current programs with national requirements, institutional goals, employer expectations, and international standards.

Findings highlighted the need for stronger industry collaboration, more project-based and performance-based assessments, and reduced reliance on traditional exams. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of integrating emerging topics such as digital marketing, FinTech, climate economics, and community-based social work practices to ensure graduates are equipped for the realities of today’s global economy.

The review process was conducted in line with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education’s Outcome-Based Education framework, with data collected from alumni, current students, faculty focus groups, employer interviews, and benchmarking to meet national requirements and international standards.

After constructive discussions and validation, Dr. Mosisa Kejela, Dean of the Institute of Business and Development Studies, expressed appreciation for the contributions of all participants and confirmed that the revised curricula, once enriched with the comments and insights gathered during the workshop, will be submitted to the Education and Training Authority (ETA) for further refinement and review.

This milestone highlights St. Mary’s University’s commitment to academic renewal and innovation. By aligning its programs with evolving global standards and local industry needs, the university is working to ensure that graduates are well-prepared for competitive professional environments, employers benefit from highly skilled talent, and the institution continues to strengthen its role within both national and international education landscapes.
