The Faculty of Accounting and Finance, Undergraduate Program, formerly called the Department of Accounting under the then School of Business, was established with the inception of St. Mary’s University in 1998, offering a diploma program. It took its current shape in November 2016 with the view to provide more efficient and quality service to the rapidly growing number of students joining the Faculty and meet the skilled workforce requirements of the labor market. The Faculty of Accounting and Finance offers training in the field of Accounting and Finance in the regular and extension programs.

The Faculty has more than 30 permanent academic and four administrative qualified and experienced staff. In addition to teaching, the academic staff are involved in research, publication, and community services.

In addition to a Bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance, the Faculty offers various short-term training to the business community in areas of Accounting Software, including Peachtree Accounting and others, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), Financial Management and other demand-driven trainings related to Accounting, Finance, Auditing, Investment, and Taxation.

Admission to the Faculty is accessible to all candidates who fulfill the admission requirements set by FDRE Ministry of Education(MoE) .

The duration for the degree program in Accounting and Finance is four years for regular and five years for extension students. Students registered for the program are required to undertake research in their major area as a partial fulfillment of the requirements for the BA Degree in Accounting and Finance.

The Faculty Dean and the Department Head oversee the Faculty’s day-to-day operations. Policy and institutional development issues are discussed and endorsed by the Faculty Academic Commission. The Faculty is known for implementing innovative teaching-learning methods. It implements Criteria Referenced Assessment (CRA) for all courses and programs. Each class has an academic advisor, and tutorial classes are given for relatively difficult courses. In collaboration with the students, the Faculty arranges various academic and social events. The Faculty underlines the role of inter-organizational collaborations, hence working with various local and international organizations.
