Senate

The Senate is the highest decision-making body of the University. It is composed of different ex-officio and opted members of the University.

Without prejudice to the provisions of appropriate laws and regulations, the Senate shall:

  1. review the strategic and development plan, policies and regulations of the University;
  2. deliberate on and approve the University’s academic calendar;
  3. formulate policies, strategies and guidelines for the planning and utilization of resources;
  4. lay down the modalities of examinations and grades and promotions of students in accordance with the general guidelines issued;
  5. oversee, direct and follow up the activities of all standing committees;
  6. deliberate on the short, medium and long-term plans of the University;
  7. determine procedures for the selection of students who are admitted by the University in accordance with the general guidelines of the Ministry of Education;
  8. deliberate on ways for improving the learning-teaching methods used in the University;
  9. examine and approve students’ graduation upon completion of programs and decide on the grant of diplomas/degrees/certificates, as may be appropriate, to successful students of the University and determine conditions on which diplomas are revoked or cancelled;
  10. devise ways for strengthening the relations of the University with other relevant institutions;
  11. determine its own rules of procedures;
  12. supervise the implementation of regulations passed by different units;
  13. deliberate on recommendations that can promote the training, research and consultation programs of the University;
  14. confer academic ranks up to Associate Professor and recommend the rank of Professor to the Ministry of Education or other pertinent body as may be allowed by law;
  15. award upon recommendation of department, faculty or other appropriate organ, honorary degree and other prizes related to education; and
  16. Establish committees which may include persons who are not members of the Senate to carry out any of the functions or exercise any of the powers of the Senate, or to perform any task assigned to them by the Senate; and deliberate and decide on recommendations on other academic affairs relating to the University
