The Faculty of International Programs (FIP) at St. Mary’s University (SMU) has been a pivotal part of higher education since its coordination of Master’s programs with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in 2006. Reestablished in 2016, FIP now oversees the operations of diverse international postgraduate programs, expanding its outreach through collaborations with several foreign universities. This faculty is dedicated to providing quality higher education in a flexible manner, allowing learners to pursue their studies without the constraints of time and location.
FIP serves as the primary point of contact for all international programs, responsible for planning, execution, and development. Its duties include academic counselling, continuous assessments, examinations, project work, and field practicums, along with offering advisory services to students. The faculty also works to establish and maintain professional networks with national and international institutions, fostering the initiation of new study areas while ensuring the smooth operation and educational quality of existing programs.
Currently, FIP runs over ten graduate programs in partnership with various international higher learning institutions. Since 2006, in collaboration with IGNOU, it has offered a range of postgraduate programs in Ethiopia, including Masters in Business Administration, Public Administration, Sociology, Social Work, Commerce, Economics, Political Science, and Rural Development. Additionally, FIP has introduced a unique Executive MBA in Impact Entrepreneurship in partnership with Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC) in Milan, Italy, since May 2017. This MBA program provides Ethiopian entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners with a tailored platform to develop their ventures, offering support in business model creation, planning, and presentations to potential investors, all while allowing them to balance their studies with ongoing work commitments.
Moreover, in collaboration with the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), FIP launched master’s programs in January 2020 in fields such as Project Management, International Cooperation and Development, Economics, and Human Resource Management. To qualify for admission into any of the postgraduate programs under FIP, candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in any field of study. However, those applying for programs in partnership with OUT must have an undergraduate degree in Economics or Statistics.
