The Center for Educational Improvement and Quality Assurance (CEIQA) at St. Mary’s University presented the 2018 E.C Semi-Annual Performance Report of the Quality Enhancement Committees (QECs) on June 6,2026. The event, held in the Syndicate Room, brought together QEC members, department heads, deans, office heads, and top management to review achievements and challenges in the half-year’s quality enhancement initiatives.
The meeting opened with welcoming remarks from Ato Shegaw G/Medhin, Director of CEIQA, followed by a detailed presentation from Nibretu Kebede (PhD) on the performance of the 14 QECs. The report highlighted the extent of activities completed, partially completed, and those not initiated, while also outlining the major challenges encountered during implementation. Out of 156 planned activities, 25 were completed, 71 carried out as planned, and 26 delayed, not started, or not done at all. The overall performance of QECs in the half year stood at 59%, with only 25% of activities scheduled to begin in the next half year.
The session emphasized the importance of focusing on the implementation of ISO-developed forms, checklists, procedures, and systems across planning units. Reflections from QECs highlighted both achievements and challenges, followed by an open discussion that generated constructive feedback and practical suggestions for improvement.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks from Ato Tedla Haile, Executive Vice President of the University, who commended CEIQA’s efforts and offered thoughtful reflections on the performance of the QECs. He underscored the critical importance of continuous improvement in quality assurance practices, positioning them as a cornerstone for sustaining institutional excellence.
