On May 2, 2026, St. Mary’s University held a comprehensive briefing session for all planning units as part of its preparation for the upcoming ISO 21001:2025 self-evaluation. The session was organized and conducted by the University’s ISO team and led by Ato Tesfakidan Admasu, Management Representative of the ISO, who guided participants through the objectives, procedures, and expectations of the self-evaluation process.
The briefing emphasized that self-evaluation is a structured, evidence-based internal review designed to measure compliance with ISO 21001 requirements and strengthen the effectiveness of the Educational Organization Management System (EOMS). Ato Tesfakidan explained that the purpose of the session was to clarify the role of self-evaluation in the internal audit process, to guide offices on how to complete the standardized checklist correctly, and to ensure consistency and readiness for the actual audit.

Participants were reminded that the self-evaluation period runs from May 4 to May 13, 2026, and all reports must be submitted within this timeframe. The ISO team explained that each office is required to complete a standardized checklist covering every requirement of ISO 21001:2025. For each item, offices must indicate “Yes” or “No,” and where the answer is “Yes,” they must provide a brief description supported by evidence such as records, data, or documented proof. References such as page numbers or document identifiers must be clearly indicated to ensure transparency and accuracy. The checklist was presented not as a mere formality but as a vital tool to identify strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement before the external audit.
During the discussion session, many questions and comments were forwarded by participants, and a constructive exchange was held. Responses were provided by the University’s ISO team, ensuring clarity and reassurance on the process. The dialogue underscored the importance of openness, transparency, and shared understanding in preparing for the upcoming audit. The session concluded with a strong call for collaboration and openness, highlighting that the success of the self-evaluation depends on the active participation of all planning units. By engaging fully and providing evidence-based assessments, the University aims to strengthen its Educational Organization Management System and ensure readiness for the upcoming audit.
