St. Mary’s University has taken a significant step in its re-accreditation journey by revising and validating two major programs: Accounting and Finance, and Economics. On March 28, 2026, the university held a curriculum review workshop at the American Corner of its Main Campus, attended by SMU staff alongside representatives from the National Bank of Ethiopia, leading commercial banks and insurance companies, private universities, industry experts, employers, students, and alumni. The broad participation reflected the national importance of the exercise and the university’s commitment to aligning its academic programs with both global standards and local industry needs.

Opening the workshop, Manaye Adela (PhD), Academic Vice President, emphasized the urgency of curriculum renewal in an era shaped by digitalization, sustainability imperatives, and new organizational models. Each program presented detailed needs assessments, examining the alignment of existing curricula with national requirements, institutional goals, employer expectations, and international benchmarks. A key advancement was the introduction of Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) and Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), with clear alignment between the two, ensuring that graduates acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills while cultivating professional attributes that enhance

employability.

After constructive dialogue and validation, Dr. Manaye expressed appreciation for the contributions of all participants and confirmed that the enriched curricula, incorporating the insights and recommendations gathered during the workshop, will be submitted to the Education and Training Authority (ETA) for further refinement and review.
