St. Mary’s University conducted the opening meeting of its ISO 21001:2025 Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS) Internal Audit on July 17, 2026, at the Syndicate Room, marking an important step in its ongoing commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and alignment with international educational management standards.

The forum was attended by representatives from the University’s operational offices and served as a platform for creating a shared understanding of the objectives, scope, and significance of the internal audit process.

In his welcoming remarks, the Management Representative, Ato Shimelis Tamiru, provided an overview of the University’s ISO implementation journey and addressed the significance of the internal audit in assessing the effectiveness and conformity of the Educational Organizations Management System (EOMS). He emphasized that the audit serves as an important mechanism for verifying compliance with ISO requirements, evaluating system performance, identifying areas for improvement, and providing assurance to management regarding the effectiveness of the EOMS.  

During the opening presentation, the Lead Auditor, Ato Shegaw G/Medhin, elaborated on the objectives of the audit, the responsibilities of top management, and the overall audit process. He also provided an overview of the audit methodology and the importance of cooperation, transparency, and objective evidence in ensuring a successful audit.

Ato Shimelis also presented the key activities to be undertaken following the internal audit, including the review of audit findings, implementation of corrective actions, verification processes, and preparations for continual improvement initiatives. The presentation was followed by a productive discussion session during which the participants raised various comments, questions, and suggestions, contributing to a clearer understanding of the audit process and its expected outcomes.  

The meeting concluded with a shared understanding of the importance of the internal audit and the role of all operational offices in supporting the effective implementation of the ISO 21001:2025   EOMS. The active engagement of the participants and the constructive discussions held during the session provided valuable insights and raised awareness of the audit process. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to further strengthen the University’s quality improvement efforts and support its ongoing preparations for the successful completion of the audit and the subsequent ISO 21001:2025 certification process.
