St. Mary’s University held a comprehensive orientation program for Freshman students of the 2018 E.C. Academic Year on October 31 and November 1, 2025, at its Main Campus. The event marked an important milestone for new students as they embarked on their academic journey. The sessions were designed to introduce them to the university’s culture, academic expectations, and the wide array of support services available to ensure their success.
The orientation began with opening remarks by Ato Tedla Haile, Executive Vice President of St. Mary’s University. He warmly welcomed the students and provided an insightful overview of the university’s mission, academic programs, and core values. He emphasized the importance of adhering to institutional rules and regulations, encouraging students to maintain discipline and integrity throughout their time at the university.
Following the opening address, W/rt Hirut Ebdo, Head of the Student Support Services Office (SSSO), spoke about the university’s commitment to student welfare. She highlighted the various services offered to help students achieve their academic and personal goals, including access to learning resources, counseling, and a supportive campus environment. She encouraged students to actively participate in extracurricular activities, noting that such involvement enriches the overall university experience and fosters personal growth. She also reminded students that the Student Support Services Office is a central hub for accessing assistance and guidance throughout their academic journey.
Over the course of the two-day event, students attended a series of presentations from key academic and administrative units. Representatives from the Registrar’s Office, Library, Career and Internship Unit, Gender and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Office (GHAPCO), Accounting Department, Computer Science Department, and Basic Courses Department provided detailed briefings on the roles and services of their respective offices. These sessions were instrumental in helping students understand how to navigate university systems, access academic support, and engage with campus resources effectively.
Overall, the orientation program was a well-rounded introduction to life at St. Mary’s University, equipping Freshman students with the knowledge and confidence needed to begin their academic journey with clarity and purpose.
