St. Mary’s University (SMU) has taken a major step toward achieving ES ISO 21001:2018 certification by conducting a five-day internal audit training for 13 ISO task force members from March 9 to March 13, 2026. The training, held in the Syndicate Room, was led by experts from the Institute of Ethiopian Standards (IES) and represents a significant milestone in SMU’s commitment to international academic standards. The program is designed to prepare auditors to evaluate 29 process owners and top management of the University, ensuring that the University’s operations align with ISO requirements.
The purpose of ISO auditing within the Education Management System is to ensure that institutional practices comply with ISO 21001:2025 standards, safeguard the quality of both academic and administrative operations, identify potential risks and inefficiencies, and drive continuous improvement across all processes. It further enhances stakeholder trust by reinforcing accountability, transparency, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, learning, and support services. This effort reflects SMU’s broader strategy for quality advancement, strengthened through its collaboration with the Institute of Ethiopian Standards (IES) to secure technical support in the pursuit of ISO certification.
