The Department of Computer Science hosted a half-day workshop to review proposed revisions to the BSc Computer Science program. Opening the session, EVP Ato Tedla Haile highlighted the university’s goal of ensuring the curriculum benefits future students.
The revisions were presented within the framework of Digital Ethiopia 2030, focusing on national digital transformation targets, industry skill gaps, and emerging technologies such as AI, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity. Stakeholders from government, industry, and academia—including Dr. Taye Girma of the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, Dr. Sebsibe H/Mariam of YOD Business Solutions, and AVP Dr. Manaye Adela—joined faculty, alumni, and students in the discussions.
A needs analysis based on World Bank and ITU reports identified gaps in areas like Cloud Computing, IoT, and Blockchain. To address these, the department proposed expanding the Cybersecurity track, adding electives in IoT, Blockchain, and sectoral applications such as FinTech and AgriTech, and integrating industry certification frameworks to strengthen practical skills.
In closing, Dr. Manaye Adela thanked participants and encouraged the department to incorporate stakeholder feedback into the final document, assuring full support from his office. The workshop marked a key step toward modernizing the program in line with Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda.
