A half-day Ph.D. candidates’ experience-sharing session was held on March 8, 2023, at St. Mary’s University Main Campus. Two Ph.D. candidates, Asmamaw Getie (Assist. Prof.) and Simon Tareke (Assist.Prof.) shared their experiences on Research Paradigms and Systematic Literature Review with their fellow faculties, respectively.
Explaining paradigm, the presenters said that it is a set of assumptions & perceptual orientations shared by members of a research community. Besides, it determines how researchers view the phenomena they study and which research methods should be employed. On the other hand, a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) helps to identify, select, and critically appraise research in order to answer a clearly formulated question(s).
Following each presentation, discussions were held. During the course of the discussion, problems associated with undertaking research were raised by participants, and reflections were forwarded. At the end of the session, the candidates agreed to arrange a regular meeting session every two months.
