Establishment History

Project Management Office was established in 2011 with the objective of handling some activities in project-based manner targeting specific goals with predetermined budget. The main aim for establishing this office, at first, was to handle the Institute ofAgriculture and Development Studies Project which had been intended to be established at Burayu. Gradually, for the purpose of effective and efficient administration, the existing non-agricultural and agricultural projects were brought under one office – Project Management Office.

The Project Management Office is led by a Project Manager, who is accountable to the President. The Office is entrusted with undertaking projects from kick-off to completion stages. More specifically, the responsibilities of the Project Management Office are to:

      • Establish definition of project scope and general baseline for time and cost;
      • Ensure the development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for projects;
      • Ensure the development of detailed project estimates;
      • Develop detailed baselines of project schedules;
      • Develop and implement project controlling mechanisms including cost, time, change and risk;
      • Oversee project execution with regard to schedule, budget, scope, quality, etc;
      • Maintain accountability for quality of project deliverables;
      • Manage vendors’ or subcontractors’ performance;
      • Manage overall project communications, including project documentation;
      • Ensure project team efficiency and effectiveness, while coordinating and fostering teamwork;
      • Provide periodic updates about progress of projects to the Top Management;
      • Do risk-scanning ahead of time for potential issues and define resolving schemes before they turn into problems;

The Project Management Office undertook two agricultural and related projects and currently manages a total of five big investment projects in various regions of the country such as Oromia, Amhara, Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples, and Addis Ababa City Administration to realize the university’s development and expansion plan. The establishment of the Office has contributed toward expanding the University’s academic programs, which in turn contributes to the needs of trained human power in Ethiopia. In addition, the Office plays a significant role in generating dependable income for the University.
