St Mary’s University hosted the 12th Annual National Student Research Forum on Friday, August 24, 2018, at Multipurpose Hall, SMU. The overall purpose was not only to create opportunity for the graduated students to present their research works and share their experiences, but also to encourage those who pursue their study in higher learning institutions to develop problem-solving skills through research activities thereby contribute to the overall national development.


At the Forum, students who graduated in 2018 from eight different private and public higher learning institutions which included Addis Ababa University, Ambo University, Arba Minch University, Arsi University, Debre Markos University, Hawassa University, Rift Valley University, and St Mary’s University have presented their research papers and shared experiences. 19 papers were presented at the Forum, where St. Mary’s University took the lion's share of the presentation. Out of the total papers, six papers were presented by SMU’s 2018 graduates while the remaining 11 were presented by graduating students from other public and private universities in the country. The research papers were wide-ranging discussing various issues such as TV advertisement, Management, Health, Agriculture, Trade and Export, Social Conflict and Problem, and Shakespearean literature. Papers presented at the Forum will be published in the Proceedings as is the case always.

The Forum was attended by more than 100 participants, which comprised St. Mary’s University staff, research paper presenters, SMU students who were invited by the research presenters, and personnel from different local media.
