St. Mary’s University, since its establishment in 1998, has been working on research and knowledge transfer, which is one of the critical activities of higher learning institutions. To this end, one of the major undertakings by the University is the annual International Conference on Private Higher Education in Africa. The Conference was initiated by St. Mary’s University in 2003 and has been organized regularly aiming at creating a platform for a wide-range of actors, educators, policy/decision makers, higher education leaders, and partners engaged in the promotion of higher education. The forum provides opportunities to deliberate on issues pertinent to the enhancement of quality education in African institutions of higher learning. Accordingly, the Conference is expected to generate policy-relevant recommendations from various scientific research papers under different themes and sub-themes. It also serves as a platform for networking among researchers, educators, and leaders in higher education institutions.

This annual international conference, which focuses on the higher education institutions’ endeavors, is the research platform where prominent/well-known educators and researchers from Ethiopia, Africa, America and Europe will take part.

St. Mary’s University, by organizing the conference for the last fifteen years, has taken a leading role in bringing together African researchers to share their knowledge and experiences and work towards the betterment of Africa. The University, using the platform, has been promoting the efforts by the Government of Ethiopia to achieve accessible, equitable and quality education to its citizens.

Like the previous years, the University is organizing the 16th International Conference on Private Higher Education in Africa in partnership with the African Union Commission, Association of African Universities, IICBA/UNESCO, IGAD, the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Education, International Network of Higher Education in Africa and the Ethiopian Airlines/Aviation Academy with the theme, “Ensuring Employability and Entrepreneurship through Harmonized Quality Higher Education”, from 25-26 July 2018 at the African Union Commission Conference Center.
