St. Mary’s University graduated a total of 1,813 students in the regular undergraduate and graduate programs on July 16, 2017. Out of the graduates, 1,106(66% female) were from the undergraduate program while 707 (39% female) were from the graduate program. Committing itself to creating access to the disadvantaged and by virtue of having a conducive learning environment, the University has been able to see its female graduates account for 66% in its diverse undergraduate programs. In the Masters programs, females’ share was 39%. The ceremony started with the congratulatory remarks made by Associate Professor Wondwosen Tamrat, Founder and President of the University, who urged the graduates to put the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their stay at the University into practice and contribute their share to Ethiopia’s development.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Addis Ababa Exhibition Center in the presence of the Guest of Honor, H.E. Engineer Semegnew Bekele, Executive Manager of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Project, who made inspirational speech revealing his own life experiences that enabled him attain success in his career. Appreciating the commitments all Ethiopians demonstrated toward constructing the Great Renaissance Dam, he called upon the graduates to continue their support and encouragement. Trophy and Medal were also awarded to the best achievers at the ceremony.
